Possible gearbox issue?

Postby bdc » Sat Apr 09, 2011 7:17 pm

Hi guys,

I'm looking into buying an na6 and I've found one that's caught my fancy.the only issue I have with it is that it judders when I get off the throttle in second gear after moderate acceleration, along with a whirring sound in second whenever I get off the throttle. Added to that when I put the throttle all the way to the floor at 2.5k rpm in any gear basically nothing happens for 4 odd seconds till it hits 3.5-4k and actually starts to accelerate properly.  I know I should get a mechanics test done but I need to get it locked down by tomorrow so times against me,and I was wondering if anyone had ideas about what the possible isse is?

Take my advice and look elsewhere - unless the car is stupidly cheap. There are too many good cars out there at the moment at good prices.

If it's an early NA6 the engine lag could be a symptom of the short nose crank problem. Replacing the engine is the usual fix so I would probably say no to this particular car.

+1 - never let time constraints dictate purchases unless you know exactly what the problem is, how much it's going to cost, & the item is priced accordingly.
