ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC (found)
Does anyone know where I could get my hands on the ECU pinout details? I'm assuming there's no difference between NC and NC2 (2009+)
I will be (or more accurately, my workshop will be) doing a parallel install - let the aftermarket ECU handle fuel and timing, and the factory ECU handle everything else.
I don't know of anyone that has done this before on an NC so I'm hoping we don't run into too many obstacles, but the first hurdle to overcome is working out which wires to splice ourselves into
I can find plenty of wiring diagrams and ECU pinouts online for NA and NB but nothing for NC

Hi Matt,
Stephanie is a good source, I have the Xede files at home that I can forward if you want.
Also have a map from her adjusted to Oz fuel that she has done for me.

Interesting. Good on you for giving this a go.
What ECU are you proposing to use?

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
Hello Sailor
Any and all information you can send me would be helpful as I've not found anything yet.
I have been told by several people that a "parallel" install will not work on the NC, and will lead to the loss of ABS etc, so I will probably abandon that idea and achieve the result a different way.
Either XEDE or a custom reflash; I will let you know. Stay tuned

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
Hi Matt,
That link to Corky's Begi page that Phil posted is well worth the look.
http://www.bellengineering.net/articles.php?tPath=31_35
Hunt around the site, there's plenty of info on the Xede.
PM me you email and address and I'll forward the map and the install info that I have.
With your Cosworth on a road car, the Xede appears to be by far the best solution BUT it will not allow you to increase RPM over std.
I examined Haltec but the driveability was my doubt plus it's nearly twice the price.
BTW waht are those wheels and where did you buy?

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
I've decided to go for a tuning solution by Moto-East - Mike Mann has spent many hours reverse engineering the MX-5 ECU (there are lengthy threads about it on the big forum - like this one) and has had much success tuning Cosworth cars including Faisal's (cyberbug)
He's cracked the RPM limiter too, although my NC2 already has a 7800rpm limit so I don't think I'll be going any higher than that.
The wheels are Gram Lights, by Rays Engineering - and I bought them right here, from a fellow forum member

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
Ahhh, looks like a good choice but with plenty of delays and shipping costs as you send your ECU back and forth

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
Not so, you're confusing it with the DP tune, which was the other option I looked at. The Moto-East tune uses a box that connects via the OBDII port.
I also get software so that my local workshop can do the final tuning on the dyno, although Mike is able to do tuning from remote by emailing the maps back and forth, using data provided by a logger connected to the OBDII port.

Re: ECU Pinout / Wiring diagram for NC?
once upon a time, I wrote:I have been told by several people that a "parallel" install will not work on the NC, and will lead to the loss of ABS etc
I'd just like to say.. Bulldust!
As I mentioned in the Cosworth thread, I now have an Adaptronic e420c "Parallel" installed - it runs the injectors and coils, and the Mazda ECU runs everything else.
I got to go for a ride in my car today (the first time it has moved under its own power in over 4 months) and although I wasn't able to actually test them, there are no warning lights for ABS or anything else - and other than the drive-by-wire throttle being an absolute pain in the ass, all seems to be working well.
Anyway, to answer my original question that started this thread - the ECU pinouts for NC1 and NC2 (in Australia at least) are the same, and this is what I've been able to work out:

One last thing for anyone considering an ECU reflash. Be very careful to follow the instructions exactly and above all make sure your car's battery is fully charged before commencing.
Replacement ECUs are NOT cheap

Totally agree Zombie! In my experience I have found the re-flashing of RX-8 PCM's using aftermarket software (for FI) to be just a game of Russian Roulette.
BTW, NC's and RX-8's use the same PCM protocol(s).
Cheers,
Danny
