The other issue is hitting your elbow on the glovebox. I must have long arms as I drove an NA8 and that was all I was doing. My NA6 has one and love it (bought it from mX5 parts UK) lthough I also have a Nakemae style centre console which really solves the problem.
NB SE, NA 1.8.

I've installed it, and it works, its great, however I left out two metal rings that came in the kit because I couldnt see where they'd fit or find a use for them.
1 is a black wavey ring with 3 small prongs on it, the other is a flat silver ring, both are about an inch in diameter.

I've dríven it about 15 kms with the new shifter today and just noticed that there is some play in the stick, especially when in neutral, I can lift up or push down on the knob/stick vertically (literally vertically, on the spot) about 5mm in each direction, not much play side to side (left/right), and some more play forward/backwards. Is this what yours does Benny?

There is also an occasional metalic vibration/rattle sound, but this is more expected than the play issue, because of the lack of insulated section in the shaft of the new shifter.

Does anyone else think that this vertical play in the shifter is incorrect? it almost feels like the stock gear knob is loose but its not that as its on tight and the shifter still has the play even with the gear knob off.. Im worried that I might not have installed it right, even though I think i understood the german instructions & i dont think it could go together any other way..
