Engine workshop that can diagnose odd sound?

Postby kazman » Wed Oct 13, 2010 1:31 pm

Hey guys,

My NA6 has had an odd squeal/whistle at high rpm ever since I got it. It's been bugging me for a long time, and it makes me avoid the higher rpm ranges which is where this motor really shines. I don't have the practical experience necessary to fix it myself, well I'm not too keen on trying to in case I stuff things up, so does anyone know of any places that would possibly be able to diagnose and fix the sound for me? Preferably not too far from Campbelltown/Liverpool, but if they're really that good then I guess I don't mind travelling.

Cheers, Kieren

Squeals/whistles are usually the belts at the front of the motor. They are slipping and may be due for replacement. I got some Belt Grip $17 and tried it. It's like a glue to stop slipping but can be a bit messy.

Thanks for the reply bruce. I got the timing belt changed a couple of months ago, and the noise stayed the exact same afterwards. What other belts are there that could be culprits? I don't trust myself to fiddle around with them at all, so I might just head to a local mechanic and see if they can sort it out.

Maybe it's got a supercharger. Do you get slammed into the back of the seat when you put your foot to the floor? :D :D :D

accesorry belts.. you can see them when you open your bonnet. they are either slipping, or you have bad belt tensioner... should not be too hard to diagnose.. take it to your friendly mechanic :)
