Ultrex cam gears

Postby clubman7 » Sun Jan 24, 2010 1:19 pm

Hi guys, first post so be gentle.
Bought some Ultrex cam gears off Ebay for my 90 model head i'm doing some work on.
Got the gears delivered no worries but they are are two different types.
Which is exhaust and which is inlet?
No instructions supplied so i fire off an email to Ultrex who tell me they don't know either.
One has dowel pins fitted which i cant figure out what are for.
So far i've figured they can be fitted to either cam.
They both have markings for inlet and exhaust timing.
Anyone have an idea?

Ultrex cam gears

Believe you'll find thses cam gears are made to be compatible with NA & NB, hence the pickup pins for the NB intake side. Whether they both work across the range of NA & NB engines is another matter. Woo had a problem with his aftermarket cams gears which he needed to slightly modify to work in his NB8A:

Thanks. Will fit gear with pins on intake.
Guess the pins are there for later engines.

Sounds spot on (NB8A has a cam angle sensor on the front of the cam cover that reads from those lugs on the intake cam).
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
