Im looking at buying a trickle charger for a spare battery.

Can you leave it pluged there forever?? Any pros and cons what should I look for etc?

I have one that is a Projecta brand. I got it from Battery World 4-5yrs ago. It was about $50ish if I remember right.

It comes with a lead that connects to the battery which has a quick release plug that connects to the trickle charge unit and the plug to the power point.

I bought a solar charger from Repco a few years ago for $29.95 - I have had it connected to a spare battery at my parents home for the past 2 years with the solar panel (around the size of a standard number plate) sitting in the garage window catching the afternoon sun.
I use it to start up my old Alfa Romeo every now and then and it is always perfectly topped up.

Yup I got one of those for the 121 the other week, planning on getting one for the spitfire and the bike.

I have a one of these I swap between cars to keep the batteries topped up
http://www.projecta.com.au/catalogue/cid/3/asset_id/15

They come with one vehicle harness as well as alligator clips, I ordered 2 more harnesses but the quality is crap and I made my own.

For example I have a plug next to the licence plate on the motorbike so I don't have to take the seat off to charge the battery.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

There is nothing wrong with leaving the miata battery on a tricke charger being dry cell and all???

Yeah I like the solar power idea, Im not going to be using the stock battery for a while I got a light weight one...

It's not a dry cell battery, just a sealed cell battery.
As long as the charger can sense the battery level and not overcharge it, it should be OK.

Ctek make battery chargers that are very good for trickle charging.
They are however expensive....

Hi
I purchased one from Jaycar $39.95 3 yrs ago.
Car mainly dríven on Club runs and the battery was always flat.
Since purchase no probs, Lead permanantly connected to battery terminals, with quick connect plug.
After run I just connect it to wall charger and leave connected till next club run, Still on same battery for 3yrs.

Regards Tony
