Hi guys,
I've currently got a 1.6 1990 Mx5. Just wondering if is worth the effort swapping the engine for a 1.8L. I can see Mx5 mania have one going for about $650.

If there's nothing wrong with your current motor, I say no. If you've got to replace it anyway there could be a case to be made.
There is more to it than just the engine itself though. Have a search around on here and you will find it has been covered many times.

Yeah Jeo is right, if there is nothing wrong with your 1600 don't get rid of it. I had the choice of swapping when I my old ones crank failed and I went back to 1600. It was easier and there is nothing wrong with them. you can get them to go just as quick

Check if you need an engineers certificate should you choose to go 1.8 if you currently have an NA6 at your state.
And should you choose to go 1.6, best to get one with a long nose crank.

You'd be better off selling your car and buying a NA8. Upgraded engine, gearbox, diff, bracing and brakes. More than likely a cheaper option, sentimental value aside.
