Post Air Con pinging

Postby Rasco » Tue Mar 03, 2009 5:41 pm

gidday

not having much luck with my 94 1.8 NA - new radiator, new brakes etc etc, coolant boiling, sounds like a tram & brakes squeel - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (tram sound is a missing brake spring thing, squeeling is from non approved brakes). Yes I'm a pomme....

I had a very expensive service recently (actioned all above) after which I used the air con in the hot weather....then and ever since after I use the aircon I get pinging (horrible rattle) - but the pinging is non existant after I've run the car for a while without air con and put the car under load - however i'm using 98 ron fuel now which may explain the lack of ping

engineer said it could be to do with the timing not being set right or rubbish fuel? anyone been through this or have any suggestions? in general I think there is a lack of power, can really tell the difference when using differnt fuels, I'm reticent to spend more money as I think I've been ripped off by the last people who serviced it

have done 230k on the engine so maybe time to bite the bullet and get a replacement - can't afford the time off the road for a rebuild

thoughts?

What brand of standard grade fuel were you using when it was pinging? Or does it ping on all brands?
