I was driving home yesterday in the suddenly hot weather, with the fuel under half a tank and it started again ... kangarooing, no power etc . . .
over it all was a smell ... .It smelled a little like burning bakelite ... (for those who remember that stuff

anyway dropped into the servo, topped up the tank (20-ish-litres) and the problem went away ....
when i got home, i took the pump out (still definitely warm to touch). But the weird thing was this red, powdering gunk all over the pickup ...
(I think I'll be flushing the tank soon . . .

Anyway, do fuel pumps "burn-out" ?
Are there definite symptoms ?
anyone else experienced "the smell" ?
Cheers all
