Those mushrooms are the right sort for the "pod behind the driver's headlight" type of intake.

the 3A pod filter fits fine.. i had a pic of it on the forum somewhere.. it just needs to be tucked under the metal sheath

If you want cool air I suggest it needs to be drawn from the front somewhere. (This is my NA of course)

Well done I came up with the same conclusion! :D The major air flow into the engine bay is thru the radiator hence the air will be heated to approx 80degC, there is no getting around this fact. I have done extensive temperature measurements on my NA and found you must find a fresh (high pressure) feed for the air to your intake to gain any power improvement. If you have forced induction you can rely on your intercooler to remove the heat so intake temperature in a mute point.
I have ceramic coated headers yet some of the articles I have read tell you that you need an (expensive  ) heat shield to protect your supercharger from all the heat radiated from the headers, I have found that this is not the case. EVERYTHING under the hood runs at 70-80degC when your moving, all cars heat up under the hood when stationary as the only air flow is from the cooling fan.

Why didn't I buy one years ago?
NA8 Ceramic coated headers, Hi flow cat, 2.5”system, M45 SC 150/62.5 8psi, Dual TB, IC & Adaptronic ECU.

I'll be getting a comparison at the MX5MANIA dyno day to settle this once and for all.
I get 3 runs so 2 runs will be with the current setup then 1 with the standard airbox in.
I hope I'm not disappointed by the results.

It'd be interesting to see how your car compares to others.

pod filter in an nb. performance loss or gain?

Hey guys,

As you know I was running a K&N Pod off the standard intake piping.

Today I removed the standard piping and replaced it with a 90 degree silicone (fully sick blue) hose, straight onto the AFM and then onto the same K&N Pod.

Now some people were reporting that they noticed a lack in torque down low, but if anything, my car has much more torque down low.....before if I gave it a bit it seemed to sort of hesitate and stutter and then take off, now it just picks up instantly from down low, the sound has changed slightly and its louder too!

I'll get it dynoe'd in a few weeks and compare with my last results.

Cheers

Alright, well the test has been done, and can be viewed here
As you can see there really isn't that much in it, slight increase in top end, otherwise very similar.
IMHO it was worth having it for the sound and it did feel faster but that's it.

Does anyone know the best place to put it for an NA?
