Turbo Heat Shield

I'm looking at buying one of these, a turbo heat shield...





Has anyone used them or currently using them? What is your experience with it? Are they worth the hassle? Do they help reduce under bonnet temp?

I used to have one of those flexible heat shields shrouding the turbo of my SP. It worked well, however, since it wasn't professionally designed for it, it kept coming loose etc. I ended up removing it in the end, but soon noticed how much hotter the under bonnet temp is.

I've also looked at the turbo blankets/beanies...


...but a lot of people advised me not to get them, so I was wondering if the stainless steel type are any better.

Any feedback or suggestions will be appreciated.

I was gonna get one of those beanies for my NA (was running same turbo etc as an SP), but was advised not to as the SP dump pipe couldnt handle the extra heat that would be held in with the bag...

Is the dump mild or stainless?
Would it be worthwhile 'Heat-wrapping' the dump to transfer the heat along the pipe a bit further? Just thinking aloud. =]

The beanie doesn't hold crazy amounts of heat.
But if you track the car expect it to catch on fire.
Just take the beanie off when you're at the track and lift the bonnet up between stints.

It's been fine on the street (I have a stainless dump pipe though)

Good question. I've always liked the look of the beanie but I thought it would be a lot more effective than what has been said. I wonder if the metal cover would transfer the heat (you'd need an airgap inside). Beanie over metal cover?
