I have seen mobil 1 5W30, fully synthetic a bit cheaper than my usual mobil 1 10w30.
Im running 10W30 atm and quite happy with it...
Is a 5w30 oil too lite for an NB8B? Anyone else using this viscosity for their NB8B?

I use Mobil Supersyn 5w50, the car has never used a drop of oil in 200000km 
Supreme Blue NB8B, 1:16.98 at Wakefield when stock, but it's not stock any more...

Use what the owner's manual recommends- whether one grade is a little cheaper than another is here nor there. Using the lightest possible is not a maxim one can carry around and trot out on demand.

5w30 is the recommended oil for the NB8B in our climate based on the factory manual.

the only difference between 5w30 mobil 1 and 10w30 mobil 1 is that 5w30 has a lower viscosity below operating temperature (more runny). this is a good thing. more runny = more flow which means more protection when your engine is cold, when your engine requires it the most.
ideally all engine/gear oils should be 0wX where X provides the required viscosity at operating temperature.
