Name the leak - MX5 SE

Postby mr_rotary » Sun Aug 10, 2008 6:48 pm

I just had a look at a couple of Mazda MX-5 SE's in some caryards. I have noticed on 2 of them some sort of leak and just wondering what it is and if it's a normal thing? It's located by looking from the drivers side front underneath by the CV boot. Next to it there is a bolt holding the under tray to the body and there is a noticeable amount of oil around it and dirt. The leak is more noticeable on on the car with more km's (50 thou km). Unfortunately I did not take any pics.

Any help appreciated 8)

Most likely oil from a filter change by an inexperienced mechanic. The filter is even more difficult to get to on an SE than on the standard NB8B/C because of all the extra plumbing. I had a bl**dy great spill there on one occasion during a service. Could always be a real leak, but I doubt it.

I had a sneaking suspicion it was, it was hard to guess without looking under the bonnet and the tray covers most of the bottom. The higher km car with the larger leak had a bit of oil over the sump pan

Thanks
