If you're not already using it, switch to Castrol lubricants. Either Magnatec or Edge, as I have found that Castrol has been the best at minimising this.
I also chuck in some Uniglide at every oil change, but that stuff is both dear and hard to find.

I find running a thinner oil to be alot quieter.. I also oil flush, and add lifter free at each oil change.

The right oil usually sorts it. At 136k I'd go for something which is thin cold, like 0W or 5W, so it will pump up to the lifters quickly. Then look for average thickness hot, like 30 or 40, for normal lubrication. Anything heavier than that is just adding frictional losses to an NA8 for no benefits.
Full synthetics have better cold properties than mineral oils. Castrol Edge 5W30 is a good choice at $30 - $40. Mobil 0W40 would be OK too if it wasn't so bloody expensive. There are other full synthetics about in those grades too - just shop by price (Castrol Gernan, Royal Purple, Redline, ...).
The major cost component of Magnatec is marketing, not oil quality.
