Can someone explain different types of Clutch's?

Postby matt9111 » Tue Jul 15, 2008 8:48 am

G'day guys, hope this hasn't been covered b4, just point me in the right direction if it has, cheers

My thrust bearing has about 5000km left in it, its sqealing and making all kinds of funny noises, so I thought when my car goes in for its 100,000km service, i might aswell get it changed and also put in a newer stronger clutch.

Now, I will be turbo charging it eventually....hopefully next year, i'm thinking around 150-180rwkw, so what kind of clutch should I be buying?

I know there's heavy duty, twin plate, triple plate, brass button, organic, but what does all this mean, and which one will I probably get the best performance out of? I'll be using a lightweight flywheel with it, dont know if that makes a difference. Cheers

The car is a weekender, so comfort isn't really an issue.

Cheers guys

I wouldn't reccomend a brass button for a daily :D

If you are after something pretty hardy and can live with it being slightly harsh, not brass button harsh, then I reckon I would go a cushion button. I know a few people using them in other cars for dailys, they are quite drivable and hold plenty of power.

This kind of thing

try this it makes for a cautionary tale and underlines that extra power means more stress on components and a cost /www.aus-cartalk.com/viewtopic.php?t=30623

Sorry to deflect your thread but I have that thrust bearing noise too (high pitched tinke noise that disappears on tapping the clutch?) and was under the impression that it's nothing really to worry about. I bought mine with allegedly a 1 year (now) old Exedy Racing (hmm) clutch, new master & slave.

Should I be concerned?

Yours could just need a dab of grease where the slave plunger meets the clutch release lever at the rear of the slave.
