All the bits off, no wonder you cant hear the turbo!

Finished product

Sad to admit it took me 6 hours to install solo effort, wasnt happy about redrilling holes in the brackets supplied as they didnt line up with the OEM holes.

How does she drive? Pulls hard on the butt dyno seeing about 9-10 psi on the autometer, will be visiting the dyno soon for another power run.....

Which bit is the AEM? I assumed it was the bit between the air filter and the turbo inlet - do you have another pic of that piece?

Basically yes,

There is a rubber silicone elbow hose 1.75 to 2.25 from the turbo inlet, then the intake with 3 ports (air, boost and recirculation from the BOV) another silicone hose, MAF sensor, followed by the pod.

do you have another pic of that piece?

I updated the last photo, it shows it a bit better.

So does the BOV outlet mount right next to the AFM? If so does it now suffer the trade mark SP stumble when backing off the trottle under load?

No, the BOV outlet is about 15-20cm away from AFM, havent noticed any stumble.

Been there, done that! :)

It sure makes a difference to the sound. My bum dyno didn't detect any difference though

Boris/Blackster, how much is this AEM intake system and where did you buy it from?

Also, where do you source the FM DP, how much and is it worthwhile?

I arranged a group buy of them from a seller on the Mazda Speed forum, I think we paid $280 shipped in the end (it was a while ago, can't recall exact price).

Digging up old threads.

THE REAL BORIS wrote:I have left it a bit late havn't I, but I just fitted mine this weekend. If it makes you feel any better Blackster, it took me 6 hours too?! Too many holes to fix but also trimming the heat shield to miss various bits.

AEM was relatively easy, its the IC that took me ages.

I ran it briefly before the mod. and recorded boost pressures set at a nominal 10psig. Now I have had to dial it back from 13!!! My boost controller needs a lighter spring (at the end of its adjustment) so now I am scouring all the ball point pens in the office.

Hope thats works for you, otherwise the cheap fix is the boost cut resistor mod and 305/330cc injectors to compensate for the wastegate creep and lean spike.

As I feared, lots of unpleasant turbo and bypass valve noises. Now for some way to silence the beast. Although I may save fuel the way it is since i can nurse it about and be without the noises. :D

Its not that loud, i dont mind the spool and the blow off is much more quieter then VTA.

I payed $300 there were 4 of us in the group buy. Bought from Mazda3online.com there service sucks btw. You can source it from US eBay, i believe mania is also offering them now.

Flyin Miata, it's a stainless 2.5" downpipe with HFC, it can be replicated locally by any decent exhaust shop. The primary restriction lies in the DP but there are also gains made by changing the midpipe and muffler.

Blackster, the FM DP, how much is shipping?

I'm just wondering if it is worth ordering the FM MSM exhaust from the US when you factor in shipping, or if it is worth just getting my fabricator to knock up an exhaust here in Vic.

Ah ok, what is the SPM worth? Seems like a nice bit of kit!
