Re-locating oil filter. Is the position critical?

Postby Steampunk » Fri Mar 21, 2008 2:16 pm

Simple question: If the oil-filter is re-located, is it critical to keep it level or below the stock position?

shouldn't matter andrew, above would be good, as when you go to change it, the oil should have already drained from it, making less mess

well there is only one place in the engine bay that would be perfect for it. A horizontal plate beside the intake plenum.
I was just wondering about the drainage issue.
Thanks Clive.

AAaah! so yours was the engine bay that I was thinking of Andrew, cause I remember a couple ppl had the filter located there.

Can't get more convenient than that!
I would be looking to mount one pretty much just behind where your charcoal cannister sits. Thanks.

Hey... what happened to those brake pad shims? :P

oh... just a question off topic,
Andrew, you've blocked off the idle bypass tube on the intake pipe.... so where/how is your car getting fed air when at idle?

NBs have it all built into the throttle body. He must be using an NA8 intake so has blocked off the unused port.

ummm slick, I thought you had a NA8?
Cos I know Andrew has a NB8(abcdefgh..etc)

regardless, I am in the same boat as you, so to speak.
What I am going to do is relocate my charcoal canister to a position
next to the windscreen washer reservoir.
Then fit the oil filter relocation kit where the charcoal canister was...
]Possible find out later today...

Yup me car, she's an NA8 like yours. Although not as fast. :)
I just said that for ease of reference as I couldnt be bothered taking a photo and posting it to show where the appropriate place is.

But dude, why are you thinking or relocating the charcoal cannister?

Isn't the plate that is in between the strut tower and intake plenum wide enough to fit a relocation kit? Albeit, if you get one like Andrew's it looks a bit too wide.
