you can design your airbox such that you direct cold air into it. This would probably involve a bit of cutting so maybe find a spare airbox to muck around with in case you want to revert back to stock.
What you could do is create a 3inch hole or something at the pick up point before the air filter in the airbox, then run plumbing through the front of the car and seal it off at the airbox end. This essentially becomes a CAI.
re: the pod filter. There are a few autospeed articles that explain that it is possible that the filter isn't the main airflow restriction, therefore purchasing a pod filter will really increase induction noise. I mean if you are after that then by all means, but for performance you could see a decrease or none at all, since an exposed pod is sucking in hot air.
I mean you could do some air pressure tests before and after the paper filter to determine whether the filter is the biggest impediment, but i will leave the airbox there for now i reckon.
