If I lug it a bit in 4th and top I get a bit of a grinding noise that sounds like it's coming from the gearbox. I don't mean really planting the throttle, just a bit of load at 3 grand or lower. Thought it might be pinging, but it's not exactly the right noise and had ignition settings checked and tried higher octane fuels with no difference.
I know, I know, just keep the revs up, yeah, yeah, but sometimes you're coming off the throttle in top and in no hurry to get back up to speed.
Any ideas? Don't have a gearbox schematic, so I dunno what motion shafts etc are common for 4th and 5th.
