Slurp, cough, clunk.......... fix fix fix.........

LM, OMY005, and JBT have all already been on hand to survey the damage, and help with the remedial works.

It's progressing well, but first - here's the damage.....

This is a straight conrod (cyl 4):

This is a bent one (cyl 1)

Messy huh???

This is the intake side - you can see how it cleaned things up, but also how the little bit of residual standing water in the head around the valves is causing some surface rust:

and cyl 1 -

However, every dark cloud has a silver (polished?) lining. Replacing the motor gives me an opportunity to finish the job of making it all look good.....

More pics will follow as I progress (including the full tear down of the old engine.....

So they weren't making it up when they told us in science that water is hard to compress?

Probably a whole weekend job - depends really on how much we get done on Saturday and what SWMBO has planned for me - I mean us

But that's why I'm looking to get the motor pretty much all put together and ready to simply insert back into place....

yup, in my experience cast and/or forged metal doesn't bend very far before breaking.......i've seen a few bent conrods over the years, but that one is as bent as any i've seen without snapping, i'm tipping once you get it out you'll find a stress fracture in it...........& probably a severely crushed bearing :?
