dry sump works how?

anyone able to explain a dry sump to me in dumb dumb terms? :lol: :P

well never mind... just found a link.. its kinda what i was thinking but there seems to be a pump that feeds the tank that will run dry at times ?

They missed something which can be an advantage - more consistent oil pressure at high RPM. Dry sumps are very popular in speedway for example due to the cars getting thrown about a lot. At one stage the Toyota 18RG in my Dads old speedcar was running at just over 10000 rpm at the end of the straight. The dry sump was pretty usefull :)

If you ever hear a road going GT3 get started from cold you will swear that its just thrown its big end bearings (rattle, rattle). Nope its just the dry sump 8)
