Clutch recommendations

Postby bjones » Fri Jun 01, 2007 3:00 pm

Gday guys guess whose getting back into the 5

No I didnt sell mine just been low key moving and selling houses. Different priorities but I can see the errors of my ways.

I was wondering for some recommendations to which clutch to get for my car and still have it divable(if youve seen my car thats a small ask LMAO)

I have 2 stage boost with alot off horses a damn lot (its a NB8B 2001 6spd) and since being on here a while ago now looks like a few of you have seen the light too.

Thanks
BJ

Have you thought about a twin plate clutch?

Good question. I know of a guy in the states on miataturbo.net who has just bought one and installed it. His username is y8s if you want to contact him.

I'll dig for the thread though.

y8s @ miataturbo.net wrote:no, I can't point you to a link. It's custom. I may do a writeup some day though. it's basically fidanza's 7.25" clutch flywheel and tilton's cerametallic rallye style twin plate clutch with some 7.25" organic disks from clutchnet that I had custom made. the other two parts are a 7/16" longer slave push rod and a 7/16" shorter fork pivot. Both are pretty easy to make. Another option is a 7/16" tranny spacer (yuck for all that entails).

Total cost is reasonable... ROUGHLY $400 flywheel, $350 clutch, $160 disks, $25 misc hardware. That's pretty damn reasonable for any clutch/flywheel right?

Taken from here.

Sorry to get your hopes up.

Get a 4 or 12 puck clutch from exrteme clutches SA, they are the bomb!! Ceramic button with sprung or solid center (i'd go solid, as my sprung gives a little jutter). These things are soo easy to use everyday and can grip like a monkey's tail.

I've got the super heavy duty pressure plate which gave me and extra 150-200kg clamping pressure but lightened the pedal load quite a bit 8) 8)
All for only 360 delivered to brissy!!!

Dave

Sorry to disappoint young lad , but Ive gone through two of these already, there CR@P...And no its not because I slip the clutch, ride the clutch. Flick high boost and stand on the loud pedal and youll see why, not to many MX's can step sideways at anywhere between 80 and 120ks just from the press of a pedal 8)

1.6 all the way
I've only got the 4 puck, not a single slip, but i'm not making 200rwkw or whatever bjones is making.

I'll get the car to a dyno soon and see what i'm pulling, should be 140-150kw by what everyone else is saying.

Wow thats unfortunate bjones, i love mine and hasn't given any troubles yet, thats with heaps of clutch drops too and plenty of riding the clutch to get ultra smooth hill starts. Did you get the super heavy pressure plate?

Try exedy for the twin plate, not sure if they make them off the shelf for the MX5, but i'm sure they'd be able to make em easy, cause they have them for most imports. Just dont go for the carbon plates as they need heat to work.

There IS a twin plate ....... lemme find who does it.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

BJ, give the exedy tech line a call and see what they think. The mania car only uses a single clutch so I doubt you need to be too radical. If not, Jim(?) Berry in QLD is your man. 8)
