NA6: Diff housing disassembly

Postby mightyrollaman » Wed Apr 25, 2007 5:23 pm

Just trying to pull down my old diff to see exactly where she went wrong and I've hit a bit of a wall.

I'm trying to separate the aluminium and cast iron sections of the housing. I have removed the bolts around the perimeter but the bits that attach to the axles (for want of a better term) seem to be holding it all together. I can't work out how to remove these bits. According to my diagram, it looks like they're held in by circlips, but I can't work out how to access them.

Any advice?

russellb is rght. i found a timber wedge the go. Put it between the housing and inside the flanges on the axle shafts and give it a whack. Even 2 wedges from 180 degrees apart works.
Sadly MX5 less for a while.
