nb DYI turbo kit, what to & what not to do, help pls

Postby sprx3 » Tue Apr 03, 2007 10:44 pm

hey guys ive done a search but couldnt find too much info on turbo'ing a 1.8l, i want to do the work myself, but would like to buy the exhaust manifold & go from there, ive seen a manifold on ebay (aus) that i dont really like the look & construction of & ive also seen some on ebay (u.s) that look a little better but nothing special again, has anyone used these & what else do i need to do to get it up & running.

i'd like info on
what turbo will be well suited for 150od kw (very streetable & reliable car)
water & oil feeds & return lines
computer piggybacks or upgrades
exhaust sizes
intercooler sizes
injectors if they need to be upgraded
fuel regs
cooler piping & where it would go
the car has aircon i read this could make a difference?
clutches & what to use when i need to
& anything else i may be forgeting

i can make exhausts, dump pipes, cooler pipes, & make everything fit as i did most of the work to my rx7 but need to know the specs & what works best. i want to use an unopened motor & do it as cheaply as possible...

this could be a great tech page in the future so lets hear it ;)

thanks guys & girls

hi there mate. first of all i'm a na6 guy, but i reckon the only difference in putting together a kit for a 1.6 or 1.8 will be the manifold. so i reckon once you have yr manifold sorted, the rest of it is pretty interchangable between the 2.

as a starter, there is HEAPS of infohere

once you've had a good read of those faq's, have a hunt around that forum as there is heaps of info. there is also guys there that sell oil and water lines, o2 clamps.. there is a megasquirt section (but you need to register to view it).. in other words it's a great resource.

have a look at that as it should answer a lot of your questions. anyway i'll be happy to try to help, as will many others here i'm sure. but yeah the main thing is to get that exhaust mani sorted i guess! i'm clueless when it comes to 1.8 manifolds. but maybe try avo (here in melbourne), begi, or flyin' miata ? ?
