Turbos and aircon - forget the adventure - I want some fun:)
Hey all,
I am running into all sorts of issues trying to get bits to fit as I install the turbo. The latest one is that the airconditioning compressor bracket fouls the side of the sump, and where I have enough space on the sump to clear everything, the access to the sump for drilling is fouled by the chassis/subframe.
Has anyone encountered similar issues (or not) and how did you get around installing (particularly the drilling and tapping part) the return fitting into the sump for the oil line return?????

I think some guys in the us made the drill bit shorter so they could fit the return in behind the aircon compressor and not hit the chassis. Modifying a brand new drill bit would be a shame though.
I also know that the aircon bracket can be easily modified (with a grinder) to give a little more room if needed...
When are you thinking of drilling and tapping? Saturday?

I took the aircond compressor off the mounting bracket and moved it out of the way. I then removed the bracket, after marking its lowest position so as not to drill the oil return too high and interfere with the bracket. Then drilled the hole, which was very easy and then tapped it...also easy.
I then attached the oil return and poured mineral spirits down the return to ensure I had flushed out any metal filings from the sump.
I followed instructions for a BEGI setup that I think I downloaded from the Flyin' Miata website.
Just checked and they have a new set of install procedures, covering each turbo and model.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
