Has anybody out there fitted a larger amp alternator to their BP 1800 engine, around 100amps and if so what is it off and what modifications were required, thanx Dave

This is something I need to look into...with the stereo and air con on, the car can't idle lol....having said that I probably have an overkill stereo for an MX-5 :P

wouldn't this just mean you have less engine power because the alternater is using up more???

bigger alternator

I suppose I should explain why I need more amps from my alternator - I run 4 lightforce spotlights on the fron of my car wich consumes quite a bit of power from the battery, I need a more powerfull alternator to keep charging the battery whilst the lights are on. ps. I do not have air con or power steer, thanx dave

I agree it's easier just to rebuild your existing one. In the past on previous cars I have used Commodore internals as they are cheap and are about 120amps from memory. Any decent auto elect should be able to do this.

What is the MX one rated to btw?
