I can think of two possible causes.
1. Clutch is not disengaging properly, possible cause the cutch slave cylinder is leaking.
2. There is a small switch attached to the clutch pedal. In combination with another sesnor in the gear box it tells the ECU when the car is in gear and when the clutch is depressed.
