I advanced my timing to 14 degrees and it induced pinging under load. I have used Premium 98 for 4 years now and the car does not ping at all.
I would try using Premium, and see if it still pings. If it doesn't, then I would warm the car up first and then wring the life out of it for a few km's somewhere safe. Next time you fill up then go back to regular and see if it is still pinging.
All this advice is making the assumption that the timing is set at factory spec of 10 degrees.
