get the computer installed when you install the turbo. That way you only need to pay for tuning once.

The computer will need retuning after the turbo installation...

But anyway, you're wrong: you should buy the computer and install it on MY car :P

You should be able to get base maps for an MX-5 that can be loaded onto the ECU/ computer. I don't see why you should have to tune it for an initial standard setup.

You will have to pay for the turbo tune anyway. That's unavoidable.

If it were me, I would buy a Megasquirt from US Ebay $199.99US, assemble it myself, and then download a base map from the net.

Have a look at Glen's tribulations doing it all at once for an idea of how bad it can get doing the ECU and turbo by yourself!

Then ask Juffa why he did the ECU first.
Just my 2cents (and I have not done either of these things, so could be speaking from inexperience).

PS: The biggest pain I could forsee is if you could not get hold of a pre-made loom adapter for ALL those wires to plug and play. That would be my biggest worry.

Do the computer First
You will have to tune the no boost side anyway and when you go turbo
the retune cost will be a lot less ( as you only have to tune the boost sites)
this is the way I did it with my car . Mind you i did every thing from making the P&P harness to Tuning on the road then about 40mins on the
Dyno to get the top end mixture and timing right

Everyone I talk to that wants to mod there car I always say buy a GOOD
computer first from there it is only a matter of minor mods to the ECU map
and you make the most of your mods ( O and if done right save on fuel)
I get 7.5l/100 on the HWY

Computer first regardless. Then it will cater for everything you want to do with your car and probably make more power than the standard tune anyway. Don't ask about the legality of this though. 8)

Microtech first for sure, you will then have luxury of bumping the timing to 14 deg down low and then backing it off as the revs rise.
the problem with the standard 14 degree timing bump with the stock ecu is the motor starts to fight it's self in the higher rev range and seem to take an eternity to rev out.
that's what my findings were to be with the 1.6
also once you have your microtech in then the rest is really really easy and on the plus side it will run harder than any stock 1.6 with the standard mods extractors etc. of course providing your car is already breathing easy.
so yes put your microtech in and then slowly collect the rest of DA bits
doesnt hurt wallet as much either :)
