I do all of that stuff myself in the garage and doesn't end up costing that much. Allows me to service the car more regularly to keep it in a better condition i recon

Where abouts are you located? Maybe someone can recommend a garage near you. I've got the American version of the '99 workshop manual, so if you want I can send you the details on the 60,000 mile service?

You should take the opportunity to replace the water pump while the timing belt is off.

60 Miles / 96 Kilometer scheduled maintenance for normal driving conditions

Engine

Inspect
- Engine valve clearance
- Tension of all drive belts

Replace
- Engine oil
- Oil filter
- Timing belt

Ignition system

Replace
- Spark plugs

Fuel system

Inspect
- Idle speed
- Fuel lines and hoses
- Houses and tubes for emission

Replace
- Air cleaner element
- Fuel filter

Cooling system

Inspect
- Cooling system

Chassis and body

Inspect
- Brake lines, hoses and connections
- Disc brakes
- Steering operation and linkages
- Front suspension ball joints
- Drive shaft dust boots
- Bolts and nuts on chassis and body
- Exhaust system heat shields

Replace
- Manual transmission oil
- Rear differential oil

Lubricate
- All locks and hinges

Air conditioner system (if equipped)

Inspect
- Refrigerant amount
- Compressor operation

Most of those are inspections (which I wouldn't trust a dealer to actually do anyway). The only thing it says to actually replace is oil, oil filter, air filter and fuel filter.

Nothing about the timing belt that needs to be done. Maybe it's different for the states?

Hi Melissa, I have used McGraths for a couple of things and found them to be OK - they are at Kirrawee. Apart from that, not sure, I haven't used Rockdale Mazda before - anyone else?

It says to do the timing belt as well, it's just that I had to hand copy the list and I skipped a line since it was listed in a different spot, my bad!

Has anyone had any prices for a 100000km dealer service on a NB8B? It cost me just over $1000 for my NA service wich included a water pump. But the NB requires a valve clearance check as well which wouldn't be cheap. The time is fast approaching for the SP 100000km service.

$800-$1000 depends if you do the water pump (WHICH YOU SHOULD).

We had a dodgy day up here in Qld on the weekend to do this service for Mikey. I think he got away with about $370.00 for parts and a keg of Heinekin

Yep - what he said.....

I regularly do my own servicing, and so I know what's been done and when.

For the recent dodgy weekend the work basically included:

timing belt replace
water pump replace
service timing tensioner wheels
reset timing (14 Deg BTDC)
check and reinstall spark plugs (still fine)
tappet cover remove and reinstall (new gasket goo - reuse old undamaged gasket)
New oil and filter
new coolant

Prior to this I had already in separate services:
replaced thermostat
replaced drive/accessory belts
replaced brakes front and rear
replaced gearbox oil
replaced diff oil
serviced airfilter (K&N)
checked coolant hoses and replace where necessary

So yes, for the equivalent of a 200000km service, I did the top list. Cost was $308 for new parts, plus some tools I needed, and food + beer for da boyz - about $400 all up.

If you have access to space, tools,and knowledgeable help, and are able to or know someone who can happily work on cars, then it isn't too big a deal to do your own services - even seemingly major ones.
