Interesting online chat I had re a new (lower$) MP62 SC kit

Hi all,

Thought you might be interested in an online chat I had last night with a guy called Brant from this site last night:

http://www.stageonetuning.com/

They are basically an offshoot of BRP performance in the states and are offering a range of entry level SC kits for the MX5. They are currently marketing a new MP62 based kit for the NB and by the looks of it testing a Vortech based system for the NC (apparently there is room for a SC under the NC bonnet after all :), yes I know the vortech isn't as good as an MP62 but hey its a start! ). Didn't ask whether they are looking at the NA as well - sorry my bad.

The NB kit without intercooling running on low boost (didn't ask but assume 5.5-6psi) apparently makes 170hp at the wheels or 200 at the fly. It comes with all the bits you need and a bit easier to fit than the JRSC kit (i'm guessing a fair bit higher in quality too). There are plenty of upgrades available.

The price is $2495 USD which for an MP62 based kit and it's extra potential I thought was pretty good. He quoted $425 USD to ship it here (nothern sydney) and mentioned that he had shipped stuff a few times to Aus. The intercooler for it was $1295 USD if your interested.

The only fitting challenge is just the throttle cable that needs to be changed (same for the JRSC kit I believe). They have some nice detailed instructions on their site with heaps of pics.

Anyways it sounded really good. Assuming the AUD stays where it is you could probably get it here for under 5k (depending on how lucky you where with the duty)

I will be giving some serious thought to a purchase in a few months I think as I likely have a few extra bills coming my way later in the year

This wasn't intended to be a SC is better than turbo thread by the way - hey I like both, but thought that 200hp for 5k was pretty good (and of course you get the lovely MP62 WHHIIINEEE  :) )

Cheers
