Check the fuses and relays first. If they seem OK then try giving the fans direct power from the battery (or a closer or outside 12V source) to test if they are actually working when supplied with electricity.

Is it very important to get this fixed asap...and would the problem in some way be related to my power steering/pump as well? The fans have stopped and my power steer pump is making weird noises...all fuses are fine.

Unless your car has been modified the main fan will only come on when the coolant temperature gets to hot. The main fan and A/C fan also cycle on and off with the A/C compressor. Easiest way to check to see if the fans themselves are OK is to turn on the A/C with the engine running. The fans should start turning when the compressor clicks in.

What triggered you to check the fans, anyway?

First connect TFA and GNA in the diagnostic connector and see if the fan turns then. If it does then you probably have a problem with your thermoswitch.
