NA6 - best seat belt tower brace? Aftermarket options or later model factory unit?

Postby twr7cx » Fri Oct 11, 2019 11:51 am

I've changed my mind (again) was going to replace my roll bar with another brand but now looking to just remove all together as I'm not tracking the car etc so it's possibly more of a liability that it's worth.
I figured I'd fit a seat belt tower brace in it's place - any guidance on the best option? There's some aftermarket units which look to go between the seatbelt guide bots. Otherwise there's the later OEM NA8/NB units but they look like they'd require a nut to be fitted as they use a seperate hole.

Alternatively fit a windbreak from a later model. I fitted one in my NA6 and found it made such a difference in reducing the buffeting that I modified it to fit when I later fitted a roll bar ...

Is it a case of one or the other or do the NB's have both fitted to them? Does the windbreak have the build in brace/side-impact-protection built in? Is there a windbreak option is decent rear speakers?

TBH I wouldn't rate either for much impact protection, but the bar would be stronger than the windbreaker which is mostly plastic. Usually only seen one or the other fitted, but if I can make a windbreak fit with a BD rollbar I can't see why the cross brace can't be fitted as well for best of both worlds. If anyone's tried and failed they can correct me. The SE windbreak had small speakers, though not great, but I still missed the extra sound when I removed mine in my SE. That said, I rarely have the stereo on these days, prefer the "natural" musical sounds of intake, turbo and exhaust
