Knox Auto Carpets are the only ones off the top of my head, located in Vic, but I expect they'd have a stockist in NSW, or at least be able to ship it.

http://www.knoxautocarpets.com.au/mx5-1/

MX5 carpet just isn't something that often gets replaced, since most owners either don't care about the carpet, or it just hasn't worn out much.

Plus, there are nowhere near as many MX5's that get proper restorations as compared to older Mazdas, or old Fords/Holdens etc.
So there's not a huge market to sell the carpet. (Although that will likely change as the cars get older and the carpet rots)

Otherwise, Bunnings also sell automotive carpet, which is an ok match for the standard stuff.

It's just flat rolls though, so you'll need to to the trimming etc yourself (works fine for the parcel shelf, since it's a flat easy to do area)

Mazda may have carpets - checked Spares? There are auto trimmers around who will make carpets using the right products and they simply use the older carpet as a pattern. Making it yourself is not quite so easy- you cannot bind edges for a start off.

thanks for all the replies, knox only has carpet for na mx5's. Might take a look at bunnings and also see what a trimmer might charge. Maybe a good shampoo with the seats removed might be a first option

I'd go the shampoo options first.

Dont use one of the handheld Steam cleaners like you'd get at bunnings/kmart They're great for the kitchen and bathroom, but not ideal for fabric since they dont remove the moisture afterwards and you'll just get that awful stink of damp.
the big rental units are likely far better, since they're designed for carpet and suck the muck away afterwards.

Just be careful on the passenger side footwell area to not go mad with the cleaner since the ECU is under there.

As far as the replacement carpet goes, i believe that the NA and NB carpet, so far as fitment, are the same. (do double check this though, my memory may not be 100% here but i'm pretty sure others have swapped between the two)

My understanding is that the difference was that the NA and NB used different types of pile (loop on the NA and cut on the NB from memory) nd maybe a different shade of colour (although that may just be UV fade)

But since with new carpet you'd be choosing the colour and pile style yourself, those differences are moot.

Mr.Morlock is right, if Mazda do still sell replacement carpets that's the best option.
Although I suspect the cost will be prohibitive.

Another solution is to take to a detailer for a cleaning- personally I would not even attempt any wet cleaning- better leave it to the pro. I recently took a vehicle to a detailer and for what I paid it was well worth the effort - vehicle that was being sold ( carpets/ upholstery ( leather) velour. - it looked terrific when done and it saved me a number of days work.

I did the same, for the same purpose. It came up so nice it made me sad to be selling it!!

Perhaps good used NB or NA carpet would do the job - it's reasonably regularly for sale on here or FB.

Depending where abouts in Sydney you are I can point you in the direction of a good detailer or look at it myself.

Funny that. The OP has had a PM in his inbox with an offer since the day he made the thread, hasn't looked at it.
