Hi all,

Getting my NB registered at Vicroads tomorrow and considering if i should go for the Slimline Number Plates or regular but i'm unsure how a Slimline Plate would look (specifically the back). I'm wondering if anyone has any photos they might share.

Thanks in advance.

Queensland plates, but you get the idea. Like you I wasn't sure I could picture how they'd look, but I took a leap of faith. I really like it, I wouldn't go back to the full sized plates.

Two slimlines look fine.
I know you can order one of each (slim and standard), but I don't know how it works at the counter (they only have a pair of slimlines), I guess you have to wait.

Note sure if they've changed it in recent years, but when my sister enquired about this she was told that Vicroads do not offer "one of each"
You apparently have to buy a pair of normal plates, then call and request a single slimline reprint.

In saying that, i'd just grab a pair of slims. They look fine on the car, both ends.
Personally I dislike the way full sized plates look on MX5s.

Two slimlines are the way to go. The standard plate on the rear looks just too big to me.

To present the alternative, I chose slim front standard rear ...

But what did you decide? Don't leave us hanging, we're invested now!

Slimline 8)

For reference a VIC Slimline Plate will need a number-plate surround to fully cover the NB bumper moulding bits.

back the screws off slightly and you should be able to shift the plate down a little and cover it.

Pretty sure mine doesn't show.

I've also got a piece of black rubber mesh stuff behind my plate to stop it scuffing the paint (let's ignore that my front plate bracket has scuffed and gouged the bumper over time....)

Slimline plate in the front for sure!

The rear plate is a very personal opinion though, much like black rims, you either love them or you don't.

I had two slimlines on Gina at one time and HATED how the rear one looked, it looked far too small and not centred in the rear flat surface as it should have been for my liking (see photos above, there's a massive gap below the plate that just didn't look right to me).

I much prefer the full-sized rear plate.

Only downside of a slim rear(!) on an NA is the exposed square hole (!again) which allows access to a screw. No mounting bumps like an NB.

Vicroads have gone crazy with the plate options (JDM, camo, carbon fibre look). Pricey.
The one I like is you can now get a black plastic slimiline plate, with no border and screen printed white lettering. You could almost make it yourself instead of paying the exorbitant premiums charged.
Sticker plates will eventually appear and may become the norm to avoid plates getting stolen (stickers would fall apart if you try to peel them).
