89 NA6 - swapping plastic handbrake cover for leather

Postby twr7cx » Tue Dec 12, 2017 11:43 am

I've been looking for a replacement leather shifter gaitor boot for my 89 NA6 and most seem to come with a matching leather handbroke boot too (e.g. http://mx5mania.cart.net.au/Leather-Gea ... -1989-2004 ). My vehicle currently has the factory plastic handbrake cover. Does this get removed and the leather one is just a straight swap or ... ?

of course they are interchangeable- the OEM products are vinyl / vinyl coated fabric. Fancy that Australian leather....

I bought my last set for my SE from this seller on ebay: j-f-customs

Nice quality and perfect fit.

Use to be another one called TopGator or something similar, but I couldn't find him.

Edit: the handbrake one slips over the plastic cover...

"nother" edit
...

Here's mine:

As already mentioned the leather hand brake cover goes over the existing plastic cover. The mx5 mania gear stick and hand brake covers were made by a member of this forum, Benny. Not sure if this is still case. I fitted these to another 5 that I previously owned.

They do enhance the appearance of a older cockpit.

More so if you buy a set with contrast stiching.
