OEM Momo and defects

I was lucky enough to receive a beautiful yellow sticker on my windscreen recently for "having too much of my tyre showing at the back and the wheels are all like, on an angle". I fixed everything I thought might be a problem and had my inspection and was failed for having an aftermarket steering wheel.

Without having the horn pad, which I assume had the Mazda logo on it, is there a way I can prove this is the steering wheel the car was sold with? The inspector told me if I can show him some proof he'll sign it off. I have searched around the net and the best pics I can find from the original sales material had the centre pad fitted.

Failing that, does anyone in Perth have a centre pad for sale or loan? The next option is to see if a 323 wheel fits.

I know this isn't much help, but this is why I keep my horn pad in the boot. With a bit of luck someone here may have one they can sell you... maybe you should post a 'wanted' ad.

Original sales material from the domestic markets in which the Momo steering wheel with centre pad was fitted is going the centre pad in place. Don't know of a domestic market in which that Momo was used without the centre pad, some domestic markets used different steering wheels.
Only way that comes to mind at the moment is a Mazda book or an Australian motoring article of the day or which mentions a Momo steering wheel was fitted standard, but even then in theory they could still refuse you because in your case the centre pad is not currently present. Check UK ebay, Gumtree & UK MX5 parts recyclers as the centre pads tend to come up for sale over there more often & for a better price.

I have the same concern with my car which uses the same MOMO steering wheel in the NA6. Replacement Mazda branded covers rarely come up on eBay & when they do they go for a fair bit of money. The Eunos ones are more regular & lower priced though. I ended up just getting a replacement horn button that says Mazda on it & hoping that'll look OEM enough to be left alone.

Other likely option would of been steering wheel from a 121 or 323 etc.
