Hi All, I am planning to fit a new transmission base plate in my NC2 and to do so the console needs to come out. That would be easier done with the seats out as well.

If I am going to that much effort, is there any advice, opinions, experience on what else, I can do, should do, or would be nice to do whilst the console is out?

It's a job I only want to do once!!

TIA

Is it that much harder than an NA/NB? It takes 20 seconds on those guys.

Fair question, I don't know how difficult or otherwise it is, but I still only want to do it once.

from memory its 4 screws

2 in the centre console area and 2 underneath the cover that goes across the mack part of the console

pull gear knob off and work the console around the handbrake lever, you'll have to disconnect the window switch also.

should only take 10 mins to do

don't worry about removing the seats

Half a Saturday well spent. Pulled the interior out of the car, removed the console, the purpose to firstly thoroughly clean the car, fit a new shifter base plate, and clean out the rain drains.

As it turns out a trombone cleaner made the rain drain cleaning easier, though did discover they were actually quite clean to begin with. For anyone having issue with the 1st and 2nd shift, replacement of the base plate will transform your driving experience. Mine was pretty chopped out so now understand why 1st gear selection was such a PITA!!

Put it all back together, I'm happy, the good lady wife is happy so a job well done.

After all that though I didn't resolve my water leak issue, though at least I've ruled out other possible entry points.

Next weekend pull the cowl panel under the wipers and seal those problematic areas. Loving the car again :D

Hey Andy. I have a brand new set of the windscreen cowl grommets and black covers. I purchased a few sets last time I ordered some parts from Japan.

The foam around the grommets becomes brittle over time and water flows in around them.

This is where I find a water leak my nc. Replaced the grommets and covers and no more water leaks :D

Usually the plastic caps become brittle and the clips break.
