I cant find the thread on Mnet where this was discussed but the first one is semi rigid and can be lifted out full and the second is flexible and more of a moulded rubber mat.
If I come across the other thread I'll link it here.

I've never owned/bought any car where I thought 'damn I wish i'd protected the boot carpet'

I would say that they are completely different producrs. One looks like a shaped liner e.g. vacuum moulded which takes the shape of the boot and protects it from wear and tear. The other product is merely a shaped rectangular box which sits in the boot cavity .

Many people use boot liners especially when they are frequently carrying gear which may stain or scratch. Mazda Aust may list as a accessory.

Well that's true, I guess I liken a 'boot liner' to a tradies vehicle, not an mx5.

The first one doesn't seem to provide as much protection. I was considering one of these but couldn't justify the price. I almost purchased the second one but was waiting for a discount code. Mainly wet gear after running or swimming. I've had liquid laundry detergent and milk spill on the way home from shopping. In my other car I have a large plastic crate that this stuff goes in.

So I can assume that nobody has either of these items yet it seems?

I'm not sue the MX5parts one us just a liner and not a tub shape, maybe a perspective issue with the photo. The image below suggests this.



I might wait until I pickup the car and go to Bunnings and see if I can find a crate that fits.

Its not hard to make a basic liner which at least has the right footprint or even cardboard boxes work well- i.e. vitually no cost and replace readily. Yi can even buy rubber e.g. chequered pattern at Clarks and cut to footprint shape. Many of these used in floors in cars and wears very well- but it would sit flat. When one sells a car a clean boot is better than a scratched example. The UK one is a liner that is made off a die either vacuum formed or in a compression mould. It looks like a good product and reasonable cost but freight is another thing.
