Steam Cleaners - Recommendation's?

Wanting to get my cars very clean, and sick of renting carpet cleaners from stores, I am thinking about purchasing a steam cleaner.

Who has purchased one and what did you purchase?

Looking for some recommendation's and feedback on any particular models :)

I have seen them as cheap as $30-$40 up to hundreds, even thousands!

Anybody had experience with the cheapies, middle of the range and super pricey?

Looking to mostly clean interior (carpets/leather) and engine bays with it.

No experience as such but have you tried a Godfrey's store. They would have a range to at least check out.

We bought one a few years ago for cleaning the floors in the house. Just a cheapie around $150 on ebay from memory. I used it once to clean car seats and carpets in an old really daggy Civic my son was given and it did a pretty reasonable job of cleaning it all up. They were really bad to start and quite acceptable after. I had to go over them several times over a couple of days before they came clean but these were probably as bad as can get! Took the seats and carpet out of the car to do it. I wouldn't do it in car too much moisture and even out of the car took a long time to dry.

As far as engine bay I tried it and it was useless. Not enough power. Degreaser, elbow grease, plenty of rags and patience still works better there. I'm pretty finicky and always cleaning something under the bonnet or under the car when I'm there.

Don't even use the steam cleaner for the house flooring anymore. A good mop does just as good a job in less time. But it has got a couple of stains out of our carpet, so still handy.
