Hey guys,

Overtime the clear coat started to peel off my carbon mirrors, but i never got around to fixing them.
Would anyone know what i could do to remove the entire clear coat and repairing the actual carbon?

Use a Stanley blade to scrape of the flakey paint. Sand it, and use a decent clear coat.

Would I have to sand the carbon too? & what grit would you recommend?

don't sand the carbon if you can help it and just needs enough sanding to get bite / not a shinny surface / fine grade wet and dry is enough.

i'd say that with the clearcoat peeling like that you'll want to do more than just key the surface, you'll want to remove all the remins so it doesnt have high spots, or just peel later on.

I'd do what Lightyear said, only difference is i'd use a butter knife or plastic scraper (less change of gouging the carbon)

Sanding wise, i'd go as fine as possible and move through the grits. Maybe start with an 800 moving through up to a 1500 or 2000 (noting, if you test with the 1500 and it works, start there. Basically start with as fine as you can get away with)
It really depends on how well that old clear comes off.

as for sanding carbon, I have no experience there but any other surface i;d do as above.
