My NB8A has the factory black soft-top roof. I would like to change to a tan soft-top roof.

Does anyone know whether the standard Mazda black soft-top can be successfully recoloured?

If so, who does this sort of work in Sydney, NSW?

Thanks in advance, David

you could go from Tan to black

Doubt you could go the other way, you would need to bleach the colour out of it first

easier and probably cheaper to get a new top

I would strongly suggest a replacement roof.

as above, it's relatively easy to go darker, less so lighter.
I have used vinyl dye on an interior plastic piece with good results, however that's also a fixed hard panel out of the sun, everything i've read and heard suggests that once you put the dye onto a flexible vinyl, especially in the sun with rubbing, it wont last.

I've very much suggest looking for a tan roof, if you contact an MX5 wrecker you may be able to get one from a Japanese wreck, and perhaps discuss trading them your old top.

Yes, the tan colour would wear off after a while and look terrible.

There is a vinyl colour product made by Forever Black (USA) specifically for soft tops which I am told is very good. However, as the name, suggests, it only comes in black!
