replacing the stock steering wheel

Hi all. I'm a new member, very excited with my NB.

I'd like to fit a wooden steering wheel.

The mechanic who does my rego checks says I can only be sure it'll pass rego if the new wheel has an airbag AND the airbag connects to the warning light system - no cheating by shorting that out.

Does anyone know a supplier of wooden steering wheels that can be connected properly to the electricals?

Thanks very much.

Jason

Not likely. Stick with the original steering wheel

If you really want a wood rim, and to keep the airbag, your best option is to look for one of the optional wooden NB wheels.

you can re-use your current airbag unit (will keep costs down, also, you cant post them since they contain an explosive charge)

If you ever want to use your car for any type of motorsport, you probably won't be allowed to compete with a wooden steering wheel in a modern car. Scrutineers look badly at such practice.

However, most wooden wheels for modern cars are actually fake wood, and are made from polyurethane just like every other steering wheel, so no issues.
