I just noticed that the black plastic of the instrument binnacle in my NA seems to be breaking down. It is sticky in parts, and soft in most areas - easily marked with finger nail. Is this common? I have seen a similar thing happen to the plastic handles of 1970s Stanley wood planes. I recall reading somewhere that the decompostion products are not good for you.
I think I'll look for a good one and replace it.

Re: NA instrument binnacle breaking down
My car has a dash mat, which I removed today to clean it. It is 93 LE, with tan interior. The dash top has been "painted" black as I now realise was the binnacle. It is this "paint" that is breaking down, I can scratch it off my my nails to reveal teh tan underneath.
Anyone else had this happen?
Thanks,
Tim
