I found this video from AMMO NYC helpful in bringing the love back to my red NA Mx5.

I love Larry from AMMO and their products, I really wanted to try out this technique he uses here to restore the red paint but sadly it does take a few mm off the paintwork to do so and my 89' just doesn't have enough paint to last this procedure :(

Hopefully someone else can show some good results though :)

I don't think you'd have to wetsand every car, considering most NA's have single stage paint you'd be suprised by the difference that smaller less abravise methods can produce. I have no idea how active you are on this forum as I'm relatively new myself, so forgive me if I come accross rude.
Have you tried hand polishing the car? If you can't be bothered you can pick up dual-action polishers for great prices so there's less risk of burning through the paint.
IF you're hand polishing you wouldn't even be taking off a milimeter, probably a fraction.
