Bonnet paint peeling?

I noticed some paint peeling off the bonnet this afternoon. Any clue why this would happen?
Is repainting the bonnet the only way to go?
Thanks!

Holly giant picture batman. The paint seems to have bubbled. Has anything been dropped on the paint recently....even something that you would never expect to cause that kind of damage?
For example RID insect repellant contains DEET, which is a plasticiser and will do that sort of damage to paint (don't ask how I know).
I suspect that a repaint will be order as it looks too big to touch up and it is right down to the bare metal?

Haha! My bad, didn't think of resizing the pic before putting it up.
I have no clue what happened. Just picked it up from the mechanics today and saw this. Wasn't there earlier.
It does seem to be down to the bare metal. Guess, a re-paint is in order.
Any recommendations for a panel shop that'll do a decent job in Melbourne?
Thanks!

Ask the mechanic if they may have spilled brake fluid on there at all.
Brake fluid strips paint.
Otherwise, it's probably jsut the usual acidic stuff like bird sh*t, tree sap, etc.

Oh! I had no idea that brake fluid could strip paint. Doubt that's it though but I'll check with him nonetheless.
In the meanwhile, any suggestions for the re-paint? Or should any panel shop be able to tackle this?

The MX-5 Factory (AKA Oven Baked Enamel) in Ringwood worked on a number of my 5s over the years. Always does a great job, from a paint touch up to a full respray.
www.mx5factory.com.auAsk for Dick Richey.

A repaint of the bonnet probably $500 and by all means ask the MX5 factory. Plenty of painters in Melb i.e. body shops can do the job. Sure brake fluid will destroy paint along with many other items- you should go back to the repairer- only you know if the damage was not there before taking it- all you need to do is get them to accept it was their mistake and leave it to them to repair.

PS the damage to me looks like something has been dropped on it - i.e. impression mark. Brake fluid normally leaves a bubbled appearance

Of course! I was actually at MX-5 factory yesterday and Dick was pretty helpful. For some reason it didn't strike me that he could do the re-paint.
It's been a bad week for the 5. Got hit by a truck while with the mechanic. And now the paint peeling.
