Cost estimate for headlight protector

Hi ya'll

I had a recent insurance claim from a car-park bingle. The factory headlight protector (the clear perspective cover that clips over the top of the light) was broken and AAMI says it can't source a replacement. I think AAMI said that it'd give me $30 in lieu. It seems to me that a headlight protector would have cost far more than that as an option. But I can't find them for sale anywhere.

Does anyone have an options list for 1998~ MX5s, or does anyone know an online retailer that sells a similar part?

Appreciate your help.

Cheers
Greg

I put one of these in the bin- not sure what happened to the other one. . I can absolutely guarantee that an extra lens protector will reduce your light output- you should be able to see this if the other light still has a protector.. OEM pc lenses are virtually indestructible- you can hit them with a hammer and not break them. The lens protector is really doing nothing. I don't even think there is any guarantee that they are even as a good a quality as the oem lens which is made from virgin PC and hard coated. I do think the extra protector would have cost more than $30 to replace - maybe Mazda can give an estimate if these were ever supplied as an accessory

I have a spare set off my car, let us know if you are ever over on the coast and I'll give them to you. I'm not likely to over Canberra way until July-ish.
