Side mounts on a Velo GPT-1?

Hey guys

My GPT-1 arrived along with the standard Velo side mounts, the plan is to use a Goodwin seat base, a pair of Recaro sliders...which will need to be drilled and the lever cut and welded to fit inside, but I digress; the challenge is the Velo mounts. The base of the GPT-1 is approx 420mm wide, the base of the Goodwin base is 365mm, There are no slots in the base of the Velo mounts but even if there was there still wouldn't be enough

Do I need to add material to the base of the Velo side mounts or is there a bolt-on solution?

I was planning on using a garage star seat rails but never had a chance to trial fit. Garage star rails incorporate a slider.

There is a pair of Pci mounts for sale here from someone that sold their gpt, but they aren't a sliding set up.

Thanks for the tip Sail, time is running out so I'm taking them to a fabricator mate today, probably leave the sliders in the shed until I'm sure about the seat height.

I have a cunning plan and some aluminium. Pics to follow

I really don't like DIY seat mounts. They're the first thing to bend in an accident (with you attached).

I agree, but in this case the guy doing the work is an accomplished fabricator and I think we're using 7075.

What's wrong with DIY seat mounts as long as they are done right?

Well the seat is mounted, it's not as low as I'd like but it all fits...just. We ended up milling the Velo mounts and adding some steel to the base, not as low as I'd like but solid and in the right location; they'll work for this weekend. The Goodwin base and the Velo mounts was not the elegant solution I was looking for; in retrospect we should have started from scratch with some Ali and steel plate.

I've bought the PCI mounts of Jimmy_Vee to save knuckle skin and get some more low

Installed my seat ...again, this time with the PCI mounts. Bear in mind, this NA still has carpet and I'm 178cm.

Much lower, a little more central.

Lessons learned
Install studs on the tunnel side
Get some grade 8s for the rear side mount to base install to get it low, the fasteners from PCI are good but sit a little too proud for awesome lowness , cheers Jimmy
Put the base and supports together loosely
Tighten up base
Slide mounts all the way back, fix
Remove cover from front of seat
3rd hole from the bottom in the front and 2nd on the back
Tunnel side in first
Do it all up and replace cover

Optional: Sit in car and make zoom zoom noises and contemplate fault finding electric fuel pump fail.

It's hard to get it right but here we go. The roll bar just clears the hard top and the passenger seat is pretty much upright
