NA6 Windscreen - Without Mirror Mount - Unavailable?

Postby jules » Wed Sep 11, 2013 12:29 pm

Hi All,

I put a windscreen claim through Shannons a couple of weeks ago for a replacement windscreen on Malibu. I stipulated that I wanted an OEM rubber mould, and that the car was an A-pillar mirror mount, therefor no mount would be required on the actual screen.

The windscreen guy turned up on Saturday and sure enough pulls out an NA8 windscreen with a mounting patch on the screen itself.

We both agreed this was not gong to be a good outcome and he left.

I have just now received a call from the windscreen mob to inform me that there are no longer any aftermarket screens available for the NA6, and that the only one's available are for the later NA8. She suggested I try to go OEM, however I'm pretty sure I have read that these are also no longer available.

Would any windscreen gurus know if I have been fed a porkie, and know whether the early screen is, in fact, still available?

Cheers,
Jules

I had a new tinted band windscreen without a mirror fitting patch fitted to my old NA8 a bit over a year ago, but I recall the fitter doing a special order for it. They should still be available so it may pay to ring around.

Having said that, the previous owner of my current NA6 (with A pillar mounted mirror) fitted a tinted band screen with mirror patch and it really isn't that noticeable. But should I ever need a new screen I would also prefer to have the patch area non existent.
