So i'm stumped. NC MX-5 parts in Japan seem to have a different part number (well for the rear view mirror at least).
Some odd reason my rear view mirror is cracked which i noticed after purchasing the car.
I've been looking at this for a while
http://www.nengun.com/auction/item/s348097635Thing is that the part that they specify is "IE4 022197" or "IE4 012197" which isn't a match to the 06 NC i have. That part number is IE8 011681.
Anyone care to shed some light if this will be a direct fit for the 06 NC or if i should keep on looking?

they have the self dimming mirrors as an option overseas on the NC, so there are a few variants around

Why not pick one up second hand? Way cheaper.

Has any one installed one of these self dimming mirrors? Ie is it just send 12v up there and earth?(ie self contained) or is it a module controlled device.
The flip thing is a PITA in a convertible at dawn and dusk.

Self dimming mirrors have sensors on the front and rear of the mirror
Basically it detects if the light is brighter from the back than the front then it will dim

I have been thinking the same thing myself
It looks like it was an option on the MX5 in the states, might be able to find one over there

I believe they were an accessory for NC2+ in the states.
You don't need to buy one that came for the MX-5 because the NC isn't pre-wired with the wires you require anyway so you still need to run wires down to the fuse box for the mirror
So that opens up your options but you need to make sure it's within reason and you can still use the visors because these mirrors are bigger oh and the mount

Thanks, having come out of B7 V6 Passat where everything is canbus or module controlled , I was checking... don't know what to do with myself now I have nothing to reprogram via VCDS...
(In the Passat the center mirror dims the door mirror as well, it is module controlled and everything throws a code)
I spose now is not the time of year the sun is in the flip zone... it can wait.

Ah
It's a completely replacement mirror and requires running wires etc etc
The downside of self dimming mirrors is when you have direct sunlight from the back it doesn't dim.
If you have the stock mirror you could flick the mirror into night mode and might stop that sun shining in your eyes.
